This is me

I’m a professional actor, singer, and educator. I’m also a husband, dog-dad, writer, outdoor recreationalist, community builder, mentor, live music lover, coffee enthusiast—the list grows as I grow.

I count myself profoundly fortunate to have toured with two Broadway productions, Peter and the Starcatcher and Come From Away. I’ve built a theatrical career that is both national and international, with ensemble-building foundations from many years in Chicago. I’m open to new ventures, fresh ideas, stimulating conversations, creative problem-solving, and community building.

I seek to live life passionately and mindfully.

In dark and uncertain times, I hope to build bridges, listen-to-understand, move forward with intention and curiosity, and bring people together…probably over coffee.

“Come From Away” - Original Touring Company

Not ice, nor sleet, nor snow stopped this one from backpacking The Enchantments, May 2024.

Arthur thinks before he speaks (a lot).

In 2023, I finished up a nearly five-year run with the Broadway North American Tour of Come From Away. The tour came to a close in Victoria, British Columbia, after over 1200 performances. My wife, Ashley Lanyon, and I embraced a significant change in scenery, moving to Seattle with our dog Charley, while Ashley completes an MFA in Arts Leadership at Seattle University.

2024 brought fulfilling jobs and opportunities my way as an actor, educator and beyond. I played Arthur in Camelot at Village Theatre. I took on multiple projects at The 5th Avenue Theatre, which brought me full circle from the opening of Come From Away in 2018. I built lasting relationships as a Seattle teaching artist and K-12 substitute teacher at a renowned private school. I also reconnected with artists and friends from Chicago, diving into a production of Waitress at The Muny in St. Louis, Missouri—an audience of 11,000 people! Unforgettable!

I backpacked Washington’s famed “Enchantments” (more on that later). Outdoor life leveled up in the last year! Hiking, backpacking, paddling, crabbing, and more.

I am filled with gratitude for all my past, present, and future adventures!

National Anthem

Harter sings the Star-Spangled Banner at the Great American Ballpark on September 26, 2019. Longtime Reds commentator, Marty Brenneman, retired on this day. The Reds faced off with the Chicago Cubs. It was a beautiful day at the ballpark with the company of Come From Away present.

come from away - in concert

On the 20th Anniversary of 9/11, cast members of various Come From Away companies came together to share this story on the Lincoln Memorial steps. This special night was made possible by Washington D.C.’s Ford’s Theatre and the National Park Service. Watch Harter rock out at 2 Minutes!

A Zoom Chat with Greg Vinkler

Harter and Ashley (remember, his better half) sit down for a zooom chat with former Peninsula Players Artistic Director, Greg Vinkler. Harter and Ashley have worked at Peninsula Players Theatre, in Door County, Wisconsin for several seasons. They’ve looked up to Greg as a director, mentor and friend for years! It was great to connect with Greg and to chat about our personal history during the pandemic. “Love and Be Loved”

WeatherTech National Commercial

In 2018, Harter learned an invaluable lesson—how to ride a Segway! Here is a National Commercial spot he did for WeatherTech, titled “Parking Garage Ninjas”, directed by Don Hoeg of Radar Studios. Enjoy!
